Improved to Prevent Entanglement
Brass mesh bolus can be used for post-mastectomy chest walls using 4MV and 6MV photons.
When placing Brass Mesh over breast and a gap is between breast, use a piece of back to back tape on the patient between the breasts to secure the brass mesh down. Either side of the material can be placed over the patient, however using the smooth side of the brass mesh bolus towards the patient will provide a better surface for the tape to adhere to and will be more comfortable for the patient.
When wrapping the brass mesh bolus around the sides of a chest wall, use the Spandage (Items 674-308 through 674-312), gauze or Clear Plastic Wrap (Item 119-750) to hold the brass mesh against the skin to prevent hanging gaps.
If you are using 15MV or higher energy beam, there might be neutron activation which may increase the skin dose and/or give dose to the hands of the therapist who handles the bolus. If deemed necessary, Brass Mesh Bolus can be trimmed to smaller sizes using Tin Snips (Item # 878-738). Protective eyewear should be worn while cutting this material. While trimming, be sure to only cut the small connecting rings of the material, and not the pieces with the flat sides. After cutting, be sure to remove all ring fragments from the material. If cut incorrectly, there may be jagged edges that could cut the skin or cause clinging with the material. Inspect thoroughly before use.
The Brass Mesh Bolus is reusable, but must be cleaned, and sterilized or disinfected before each use.
Note: To prevent corrosion, do not sterilize this product with bleach or other cleaning agents that contain chlorine.

Radiation Products Design‘s Brass Mesh Bolus should be handled with care due to its delicate structure. RPD carefully inspects and interleaves each sheet with tissue paper to ensure product is fully functional. Tissue paper will prevent links from entanglement. If material does become entangled, use caution to carefully unhook entangled links. Do not tear apart as links will be removed creating a hole in material.
