Designed for 3M Type Cesium-137 Sources
The Wang-Front Loading Applicator is an intracavitary afterloading device utilizing three Cesium-137 sources in a “T” configuration. The three 3M Cesium-137 (Cs-137) tube sources each have a diameter of 3.1 mm and length of 20.0 mm. The sources are arranged in a “T” configuration, with two tandem sources oriented along the longitudinal axis of the cylinder and one apex source perpendicular to them.
This source geometry provides a homogenous dose distribution over the apex and lateral walls of the applicator. Computer point dose calculations, generated by a traditional brachytherapy program and Monte Carlo program, agreed within standard errors of measurements obtained by TLD in a plastic phantom.
The vaginal cylinder is 30.0 mm in diameter and 70.0 mm in length. The apex of the applicator is semi-spherical. The cylinder is sealed to prevent fluid leakage into the source cavities.
